LA-based, Mexican-American TV Writer.

Jesenia wrote on hit shows like Good Witch, Dora, and Rosie’s Rules, as well as Lifetime movies like The Wrong Nanny. She loves writing funny/cute stuff as a way to heal from her childhood trauma — as you do when you’re a functional adult.

She’s the daughter of an undocumented Mexican immigrant father and a MAGA white mother, so, as you might imagine, they are divorced. Jesenia grew up poor as hell, surrounded by verbally abusive alcoholics, and sandwiched in the middle of ten kids from four different mothers (but all the same very busy dad). Out of all of her siblings, Jesenia’s the only one to graduate from college while all the others work at her Mexican dad’s Italian restaurant.

Jesenia’s life has been bumpy and messy, but through striving to make sense of it all, she finds the bitter-sweet humor in life while wrestling with ideas of class, gender, diaspora, and identity in her work. Her specialties are story structure (which she learned at USC), writing premises (which she honed on Rosie’s Rules) and bringing weird/hilarious Latina characters to life.

When she’s not writing, you can find Jesenia making corn costumes for her chihuahua Elote, singing the hardest R&B song she can find at karaoke with her husband, Jon, and going to therapy.
